Biddeford, ME –Children at Catholic Charities’ St. Louis Child Development Center were treated to a special visit from Maine’s youngest author, 10-year-old JoJo Thoreau, who shared her tale, Bendy-Wendy − about a gymnast at the top of her game, until she hurts her back and has to battle boredom and two pesky brothers.
The author’s visit was arranged by the Center’s Advisory Committee, which is dedicated to bringing educational enrichments to the children at St Louis. “We believe in the importance of introducing a variety of cultural experiences at a young age, especially since some of the children wouldn’t have the opportunity otherwise,” notes Todd Winship, Director of Catholic Charities Maine’s three child development centers. “Whether it’s through music, art, dance or a literacy event such as this, the children are exposed to new ideas and are learning through play in a hands-on active environment. After all, learning can and should be fun!” Winship enthuses.
