Catholic Charities to expand operations at the Aroostook Centre Mall

September 7, 2023

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine—Catholic Charities Maine recently announced plans to expand operations at the Aroostook Centre Mall. The move is scheduled to take place in October 2023.

The community-based charity will be consolidating its Presque Isle Thrift Store, currently located at 56 State Street, and its Hope Chest Boutique, already located at the Aroostook Centre Mall, into a 20,000-square-foot portion of the former Staples and Porteous locations.

“I’m very excited for Catholic Charities to be a part of all the good things happening at the Aroostook Centre Mall,” said Dixie Shaw, Director of Hunger & Relief Services at Catholic Services Maine.

“The convenient access and vision for this space is important to our mission to feed the hungry,” added Shaw. “Our stores are critical to our ability to fundraise so we can feed folks throughout Aroostook County.”

The former Staples and Porteous locations will offer shoppers both an outside and inside entrance to the Catholic Charities stores, along with a loading dock which is important to the servicing of incoming trucks as well as for loading cardboard and other recyclables.

Aroostook Centre Mall owner Dana Cassidy knew Catholic Charities was not only a good cause but a great tenant.

“Dixie Shaw has boundless energy and knows how to get things done,” said Cassidy. “Catholic Charities does great things here in Aroostook County and we’re happy to have them and their many customers here at the mall.”

An additional 30,000 square feet of space is still available in the former Porteous location. Current plans are to renovate it into affordable senior living along with other spaces in the mall.
