Biddeford, Maine -- Catholic Charities Maine announced today that two of its programs have each been awarded two-year grants from United Way of York County.
Independent Support Services will receive a total grant of $16,000 to support outreach to senior citizens in the community and homemaker services that enable them to remain living independently in their home.
Since 1967 Catholic Charities’ Independent Support Services has provided homemaker services statewide for seniors and individuals with disabilities, including in-home assistance with housekeeping, groceries, meal preparation and laundry.
The Agency’s St. Louis Child Development Center in Biddeford is the recipient of a grant totaling $50,000 to support early childhood development and ensure access to quality child care for all.
St. Louis Child Development Center welcomes children of all faiths from 6 weeks to 7 years of age and provides developmentally appropriate learning opportunities along with enrichment such as art, music and play to meet children's educational needs along with the need for a safe and nurturing environment. St. Louis currently serves more than 141 children with more than 50% from low-income families. The Center is rated as the highest quality center by the State of Maine (Step 4) and is nationally accredited by the Council of Accreditation.
Through the mobilization of resources and expertise, United Way of York County advances the common good and strengthens the whole community. Thanks to the continued support of dedicated individuals, businesses, and organizations throughout York County, this year the United Way is investing in 59 community programs that serve children, youth, adults, and families.
