Providing help and creating hope in Maine
Portland, ME – Due to the overwhelming response from the public to provide in-kind donations to the victims of the Lewiston fires, Catholic Charities Maine and The Salvation Army are requesting folks re-direct their efforts at this time to make monetary contributions to a special fund that has been set up to help the victims.
“The community response has been tremendous and we are truly thankful for the outpouring of support,” notes CCM Chief Operating Officer Jeffrey Tiner, “but what is needed now is money to buy the critical items that must be purchased new, such as mattresses and bedding, and items for children that must be purchased new due to safety concerns over government recalls.”
Monetary donations may be made online at www.volunteermaine.org, by clicking on the “Support Lewiston Fire Relief” link. The fund will be administered by the United Way of Androscoggin County. Donations are also being accepted via the American Red Cross at (207) 874-1192, extension 116.
If any groups or businesses have already collected items in bulk, please call (207) 523-2728 and leave a message outlining the nature of the items you have collected. A representative will get back to you to arrange for a drop off of bulk-donations only.
