St. Elizabeth’s Child Development Center utilizes Maine’s Early Learning & Developmental Standards, and Maine’s Infant –Toddler Guidelines for Learning and Development, as the primary tools to plan curriculum. We believe children learn through every experience of every day, by being actively involved in their environment. All experiences must be well planned, based on best practice, incorporate the children’s interests, and be developmentally appropriate.
Our experienced teachers use a variety of forms of assessment to plan and adapt the curriculum to meet the children’s needs. Indoor and outdoor environments are arranged in a welcoming, safe and accessible manner for all children. We believe in a balance of teacher-planned activities and those that emerge from the child’s individual interest, abilities, goals and objectives, as well as a variety of large-group, small-group and individual activities, both indoors and out. Community and family cultures, values and traditions are an important component of the curriculum.
The Center uses the Ages and Stages Questionnaire tool for developmental screening when a child enters the program. We share all information on assessments and screenings with the child/rens parent/s. We want to provide your child with a developmentally appropriate early learning program while making it a joy to be at the Center.
